The modern control concept of the EPP pre-foaming machine is implemented on a touch screen with an integrated PLC. The precise steam pressure control range is +/- 0.1 bar, and the electronic weighing device allows the user to pre-foam a uniform volume density in the range of 15-60 g/l with a minimum deviation of +/- 1 g/l. Kurtz can therefore compensate for larger volume density variations of +/- 2-5 g/l within the raw material during the pre-foaming process.

After using the Pusheng EPP pre-foaming machine, the weight of raw materials transported by truck each time can be up to five times the original weight, saving a lot of costs. This saves on raw material consumption, so that the investment costs can be amortized within 2 years at a monthly output of about 100 tons.

3. Pre-foaming process: the first step to success
The EPS raw material is conveyed in granular form to the pre-foaming machine, where it is heated by wet steam. The hot steam softens the polystyrene beads and activates the blowing agent dissolved in them. The blowing agent evaporates and expands the softened beads. The bulk density can be adjusted via the raw material weight and the foaming volume. The EPS beads pre-foamed in this way are subsequently cooled and stabilized in a fluidized bed on an air cushion and then conveyed by a blower via a rotary feeder into a silo.
Welding of the final product: During the subsequent intermediate storage, the blown air diffuses out of the pre-foamed polystyrene beads and air penetrates in. This "filling air" is further processed during the conversion process in an automatic molding machine or block mold. In order to achieve a low bulk density, EPS can also be post-foamed in a second process. For expandable polypropylene (EPP), lightweight foaming can be performed using an EPP/HP pre-foaming machine.
